How can I configure grade boundaries for my curriculum?

Toddle provides you with an intuitive interface to configure the academic setup for your curriculum, such as setting up grading periods, grading methods, grade boundaries and more.

Setting up grade boundaries is an essential part in ensuring consistency in how student performance is measured. Toddle provides an intuitive interface that allows you to easily configure grade boundaries for your curriculum. Read this article to understand how you can define these grade boundaries on Toddle!

Configuring grade boundaries

In the admin portal, scroll to the ‘Programme level configurations’ section and click on ‘Academic setup’ for your curriculum.

From the navigation menu on the left, select ‘Grading setup’.

On the ‘Grade boundaries’ page, you can set grade boundaries that will automatically calculate the overall grades reflected in the gradebook and progress reports. Here you will have two options to define grade boundaries:

  1. Default grade boundary

  2. Custom grade boundaries

💡 Please note that you will be able to configure grade boundaries only after selecting a grade calculation method. Furthermore, the setting to configure grade boundaries is available only when you choose the 'Auto-calculated from score' option. Creating default grade boundary

Toddle allows you to setup a default grade boundary for your curriculum. The default grade boundary is applied across all grading periods, subjects and grade levels unless you choose to define custom boundaries. You can view and edit the default boundary by clicking the Editbutton.

Adjust the overall score ranges and the corresponding grades. You can add more score ranges by clicking ‘Add another’ or remove the existing ones using the ‘Bin’ icon. Once done, click on the ‘Save’ button. The grades will automatically be applied based on the score ranges you set.

Creating custom grade boundaries

If your grading system requires specific grade boundaries for individual grading periods, subjects and grade levels, you can go to the ‘Custom grade boundaries’ tab to customise grade boundaries as per your requirements. Here, choose the appropriate grading period.

On the landing page, you will see default grade boundaries for each grade for a subject. Select the subject from the navigation menu on the left and click on the ‘Edit’ button to start customising these grade boundaries.

You can adjust the overall score ranges and the corresponding grades. Additionally, you can add more score ranges by clicking ‘Add another’ or remove the existing ones using the ‘Bin’ icon. Once done, click on the ‘Save’ button.

After saving the changes, the grade boundary will be labelled as ‘Custom’ to indicate the modifications. You can edit the grade boundary at any time using the three-dot menu, and if needed, you can revert it to the default settings by selecting the ‘Reset to default’ option. Additionally, you can replicate it for other subjects and grade levels.

Duplicating grade boundaries

If you wish to apply the same grade boundaries across multiple subjects or grades, click on the three-dot menu next to a grade boundary and select Duplicate to other subjects and grade levels’.

A pop-up window will open, allowing you to select the subjects and grade levels where you want to copy the grade boundaries. You can select multiple subjects or grades at once. Once you've made your selection, click Next.

In the next step, a summary and confirmation window will appear. This step will notify you that duplicating the grade boundary will override any existing boundaries for the selected subjects and grades. Additionally, it will inform you that this action will recalculate the overall grade in the gradebook and in unlocked progress reports.

To proceed, check the box confirming that you understand the consequences of the duplication, and then click Duplicate’ to complete the process.

Importing grade boundaries from other terms

You can also import grade boundaries from other grading periods using the ‘Import grade boundaries from another grading period’ option under the 3-dots menu.

The pop-up window that opens next enables you to choose the grading period from which you wish to import the grade boundaries. You can choose to bulk import boundaries for all subjects, or manually select the subjects and grades.

You will see the same option located at the top right as you enter inside a grading period. The same window will open from here as well.

Once you have selected the appropriate grading period, subjects and grades, click on the ‘Next’ button to complete the continue. A summary and confirmation window will notify you that importing the grade boundary will override any existing ones for the selected subjects and grades.

To proceed, check the box to confirm your understanding, then click ‘Import’ to complete the process. Consequently, grade boundaries for selected subjects and grades will start reflecting.
