Toddle provides you with an intuitive interface to configure the academic setup for your curriculum, such as setting up grading periods, grading methods, grade boundaries and more.
Setting up grading periods is the first step towards configuring the grading system for your curriculum. Grading periods are usually aligned to the school’s reporting cycles such as terms or semesters. Read this article to learn how you can set up grading periods on Toddle.
Following the setup of grading periods in your curriculum, the next crucial step is configuring the grading setup. This involves deciding how to calculate scores for grading periods and assessment categories. Assessment categories are created by schools to group assessments into different buckets. Examples of categories could be Formative Assessments (FA), Summative Assessments (SA), or specific papers (e.g., Paper 1/Paper 2). These categories are established for each grading period, specific to each subject and grade level. Scores are calculated at each assessment category level and these scores are then used to arrive at a total score for the grading period for a subject. Alternatively, schools may decide not to define any assessment category and calculate the grading period scores directly from the assessments.
Additionally, you can determine your approach to calculating the Overall grade for both assessment categories and grading periods. Read this article to understand how you can set up the overall score and grade calculation method for categories and grading periods.
Configuring overall score for categories and grading periods
Navigate to the ‘Grading setup’ section within ‘Academic setup’ for your curriculum from the admin portal. You will land on the ‘Overall score and grade setup’ tab. To edit your preferences for overall score calculation, click the pencil icon in the ‘Overall score for categories and grading periods’ section.
Here you can choose whether you would like the overall score calculation to take place for each student per subject in all assessment categories and grading periods by enabling or disabling the toggle switch. Please note that if you disable this option, category scores and grading period scores can no longer be seen in the gradebooks and unlocked progress reports.
Additionally, you also have the option to choose whether you would like the overall scores to be calculated in decimals or whole numbers. You can also select how many decimal points you would like to display in the overall score and decide whether to round or truncate scores.
💡Please note that if you choose to calculate your overall score in whole numbers, the rounded-off category and grading period scores will be applied in calculations. This might change your overall score by a small percentage in gradebooks and unlocked progress reports.
Refer to this article to understand how scores for categories and grading periods will be calculated if you toggle the switch to on.

The conversion from score to grade is based on the grade boundaries defined by you under the ‘Grade boundaries’ section. Alternatively, if you select the ‘Manually assigned’ option, then teachers will need to manually enter a best-fit grade for each student. In this case, the overall grade doesn’t get automatically calculated. Finally, click on the ‘Save changes’ button to save your preferences.
