How can I customize content using the rich-text editor on Toddle?

Updated over a week ago

The rich-text editor on Toddle provides a flexible and user-friendly space to create and format content for a variety of needs - whether you are drafting announcements, creating class tasks, or designing unit plans. This article outlines the key formatting and media tools available within the editor to help you structure and present your content clearly. Let’s explore each of the features in detail.

1. Headings

Choose from three heading styles (H1, H2, H3) to define sections and subsections in your content clearly. This makes it easier to navigate through your text and effectively highlights key points. Keep in mind that headings and regular text sizes cannot be intermixed on the same line for clarity and consistency.

2. Font colours

Use the color picker to change the color of your text to suit your needs. Whether you would like to highlight important points or differentiate sections, the new color palette gives you the flexibility to do so. Simply select the text and choose the color from the picker. Both headings and paragraphs can have colors, enhancing the visual appeal of your content.

3. Tables

The table icon in the rich-text editor allows you to create tables within your content. Here are some key functionalities:

  • Insert tables with a maximum of eight columns to maintain readability.

  • Use the six dots icon to add or delete rows and columns as needed.

  • Use the six dots on a row or column to drag and drop them within the same table to reorganize data.

  • Copy and paste table data from external sources like Excel and Docs.

4. Embedded Videos

Insert YouTube videos directly into your text within the rich-text editor. This feature allows you to add visual explanations, tutorials, or supplementary material to your assignments or lesson plans. When adding a video, you can choose to display it as a URL or embed it directly.

Once embedded, you can resize the video to fit your document's layout. Simply click on the video and drag the corners to adjust its size. The videos can be watched without leaving the rich-text editor. Currently, this feature supports regular YouTube videos, ensuring a seamless integration.

5. AI Integration

For schools that have opted for AI features, there are additional capabilities available in the rich-text editor:

  • Editing/improving text: You can select any text you’ve written or generated using AI and perform multiple actions on that specific piece of text. For example, continue writing, expand, shorten, simplify language, fix spelling and grammar, or translate text.

  • Writing from scratch: In the rich-text editors, you can type the / command to trigger the AI editor to help you write a piece of text from scratch. For instance, you can ask the AI to help you write teacher questions while planning a unit, as shown below. You can even use the translate option to translate into the language of your choice. Please note that AI features do not apply to the tables you create.
