Toddle provides seamless integration with Turnitin. This enables students to check for similarity index in the work submitted and ensure non-plagiarised responses. Read this article to learn how you can use Turnitin for Class assignment submissions.

Using Turnitin for Class assignments

To begin, navigate to your class and click on ‘Assignments’(formerly class stream)’ from the left-hand collapsible menu. Next, click on the task for which you wish to check your submission for similarity.

If the Turnitin check was enabled for this task by your teacher, you will notice an option to ‘Check for similarity’ right below your submission.

Here, for every work submitted, you can view the similarity percentages as indicated by Turnitin and/or check/recheck for similarity using the clickable link.

If you wish to check the similarity score for any attachment, click on the ‘Check for similarity’ option given under your submission. As a first-time user, you might notice a pop-up text box for Turnitin End-User License Agreement, go through the agreement and click on ‘I agree’ to continue.

Clicking again on ‘Check for similarity’ will show you the similarity percentage for the selected work. You can easily recheck these attachments for similarity by using the ‘Recheck’ option.

You might see different colours for the similarity percentages on the attachments: green for low similarity, yellow for moderate, and red for high.

Clicking on the similarity percentage will direct you to the Turnitin report where you will see the plagiarised text highlighted along with the list of overlapping sources.

If you wish to exclude the highlighted text from the similarity check, tap on the text and click on ‘Exclude this text’. Now the selected text would not be a part of the similarity check. As a result, you will notice that the similarity percentage has decreased. However, these exclusions cannot be saved and will not have an impact on the final similarity percentage that you see on the submission page.

Additionally, you can configure the mechanics of similarity check by clicking on the settings icon on the top right. You can choose the repositories you wish to compare your work with and can also exclude certain sections of your work from the similarity check.

In some cases, Turnitin may throw error messages related to file type, size, format, word count and access-related issues. In such cases, resolve the error and resubmit your work.
