When creating a class task, you can upload submission templates from your Google Drive and students can in turn submit their work as Google files. While uploading a student template, you can add files from your Google Drive in two ways:
1. Using Google sign-in
If your Gmail is not connected to the Toddle platform, you will be redirected to a sign-in page where you can link your Google account. Here, you can select your pre-existing Google account or use another account.
You will then be redirected to the permissions page, where you can manage Toddle's access to the selected Google account. Here, you can select what Toddle can access. Once done, click on ‘Continue’ to proceed.
💡You will no longer be required to manage these permissions once your Google account is connected.
Now, you will be able to access all the Google Drive files of your linked account from the window as shown below. From here, you can choose any file that you wish to add as a submission template.
💡If you have already linked your Google account but didn’t grant the necessary permissions at that time, a pop-up will appear prompting you to configure the drive permissions when you try to access the Google Drive files of your linked account.
After the file is selected, Toddle copies the file to a drive folder named ‘Toddle’ in the connected Google account as shown in the screen below. The copied file is then used to create student copies or share with students. Toddle makes no changes to the original document and instead uses the copied document everywhere.
Once the permissions are in place while adding a student template from Google Drive, a pop-up screen will appear where you can choose to make a copy of the attached file for each student or give edit access to all students for the attached file. Choose the appropriate option from the dropdown and click on the ‘Done’ button. Consequently, the file will be added as a student template.
2. Using Profile settings
Using profile settings, you can directly connect your Google account to Toddle. This will make it easier for you to add files from Google Drive wherever required. To do so, go to the ‘Profile’ from the homepage as shown below.
On the landing page, you can check all accounts connected to your profile. Here, click on the ‘Connect’ button to link your Google account as shown below. Next, you will be redirected to the ‘Sign-in’ page where you can sign in to your account and manage permissions using the steps described earlier in this article.
Once your Google account is connected, you will be able to access and share all your Google Drive files of the linked account without having to sign in again. If you want to add another Google account, you can simply ‘Disconnect’ the existing account under the profile settings.
You can connect to another Google account using the same sign-in process.
Using Google Workspace at the student’s end
When students are assigned a task with an attached student template from Google Drive, they can directly submit their responses by clicking on the ‘Add response’ button.
This will throw an error as shown below, if the student’s Google account is not linked to the Toddle platform and the student will not be able to access the shared template.
To resolve this issue, you or the school admins can add the student’s email address to the student profile from the Class settings or the admin portal.
Once the email address is added, the student will be able to access the submission templates shared with them.
💡The student should use the same Gmail account (added in the admin portal). Otherwise, it would prompt the student to log in again.
Once this configuration is done, the student can directly add their responses to the shared student template and click on the ‘Save & Exit’ button to save all the changes.
After marking the submission as done, the attached student template will go into view mode.
The student will only be able to add comments and view comments given by the teacher to the document and will no longer be able to edit it.
In case, the student is submitting their work directly from Google Drive without using a submission template, the student will be redirected to the Google sign-in page where they can link their Gmail account and manage Google permissions. The student will only need to sign in once and won't be prompted to do so again the next time they add anything from their Google Drive.
When uploading work from Google Drive, students will have the following options:
Share as file- When the students upload their work as a file, you as an educator will be able to directly access the file without asking for access permissions if Toddle supports the file extension.
Share as a link- When the students share their work as a link, Toddle adds it as a link attachment.
💡You will be able to access the linked file only when the access is open for all or the student has shared its access specifically with you.
💡 If the student has given you access to the linked file and you are logged in with a different email address in the browser, you will be prompted to log in again to access the file.
💡 If the student has shared a private file, access to the linked file will be denied at your end.
